As weather starts to heat up, now is the perfect time to turn your composting on. Depending on what part of the country you live in, you might want to start saving those compost friendly food scraps, especially coffee grinds, egg shells, vegetable and fruit peels. You can store them in your kitchen counter compost bin for convenience to use later in your outdoor compost pile.
You can also add some leaf and grass clippings to the pile for bulk. Turn the pile every few days for aeration to speed up the composting process. In a few weeks you will start to generate, what some gardeners refer to as black gold.
